Provides information, advocacy and referral to services as well as crisis or short-term counselling for individuals and families.

SCHOOL-BASED YOUTH WORKER

Based at Ste-Anne school and De La Salle High School, our counsellor provides support and counselling, either individually or in groups, to children who live in Lowertown.

EARLY YEARS PROGRAM

Promotes the healthy development of children from 0 to 6 years while providing the means to better prepare them for school. The project is also geared to support parents by offering educational tools and resources such as workshops on parenting and a parent-child playgroup.
  • Parent-Child Playgroup
    For children up to 6 years of age and their parents or caregivers. Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9AM to 11 AM at the Patro d’Ottawa. Also offered in French on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 
     
  • Parenting Workshops/Meetings
    Get-togethers for parents and caregivers to discuss topics such as discipline, nutrition, etc. 
     
  • Parent-Baby Playgroup
    The program focuses on topics such as: child development, nutrition, sleep routines, baby massage and other aspects of the life of new parents.

MULTICULTURAL PROGRAM

Facilitates the integration of people of various ethnic backgrounds who are new to Canada
through services and activities such as counselling, drop-ins, exercise groups, sewing classes and a homework club.

 
  • Sewing Classes
    Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 12 PM.
     
  • English-As-a-Second Language Classes
    Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 12 PM.
     
  • Women Alive
    Aerobic exercises for women of different ethnic groups. 
     
  • Senior Citizens Exercise Program
    A variety of exercises and stretches. 
     
  • Seniors Walking Club
    Secure and fun walking group.

YOUTH PROGRAM

A variety of programs and activities in English for kids aged 6 to 17 of Lowertown.
 
  • Homework Club
    Help offered to primary and secondary school students of Lowertown at York Street Public School. Monday to Thursday from 4 PM to 5:30 PM.
     
  • Club 310
    After-school program at York Street Public School from 2 :30 PM to 4 PM.
  • Basketball Nights
    For ages 7 to 16. 
     
  • Youth Recreational Space
    Space for teenagers 12 to 17 years old, Thursday and Friday 6PM to 9PM at 201 Friel.
     
  • Summer Afternoon Camp
    Activities for ages 6 to 11, Monday to Friday afternoons 1 PM to 4PM.
     
  • Girls Night
    Tuesday night at 201 Friel, 6 PM to 9 PM.
  • Soccer league
    Groups aged 6 to 8; 9 to 11; 12 to 15.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Support for community-based groups and organizations, engagement in social action, and identification of community needs for future program development.
 
  • Community Garden
    Beginning each spring, people interested in gardening come together to work in a
    community garden. From seeding to harvest, the group meets to share the chores,
    providing an opportunity for collaboration and fostering friendships.
     
  • Lowertown Good Food Box
    Once a month, this program allows you to buy fruit and vegetables valued at approximately $20 to $25 for about half the price. 
     
  • Community Store
    Twice a year, at back-to-school time and at Christmas, the Lowertown Community Resource Centre, in partnership with the Patro d’Ottawa, Ste-Anne school and the Community House, operates a community store where, for a small fee, people can obtain school supplies, groceries and toys.
  • Income Tax Clinics
    Each year the Lowertown Community Resource Centre offers income tax clinics for
    low-income individuals and families.
  • Collective Kitchen
    Opportunity  to plan and prepare nutritious, economical and freezable
    meals to serve at home.
     
  • Security Project in Lowertown East
A project in partnership with Lowertown residents and organizations based in Lowertown with the objective of preventing crime in the community through various measures.  Its mission is to actively engage members of the community in identifying their concerns about safety in the neighbourhood as well as in finding solutions and ways of preventing problems.

HOME MANAGEMENT COUNSELLING SERVICES
(City of Ottawa)


Provides home-support services, such as light housekeeping and child care as well as home-management counselling on budgeting, nutrition and parenting. Trained part-time staff are employed for this program.

Provides counselling for individuals, families and couples in areas such as personal difficulties, family conflict and violence.

  • Support Group for Women Victims of Violence
    This group is for women who have suffered physical, emotional or sexual abuse from their partners.

HEALTHY BABIES HEALTHY CHILDREN

Preventative program of early intervention through home visits by trained staff. This program is geared to support parents having difficulty caring for children under the age of 2.

Program offering services to help adults prevent disease and stay healthy through good nutrition, physical activity, a healthy lifestyle, stress management and smoking
cessation.

ACTION HOUSING

The agency assists, supports and advocates for disadvantaged individuals and families to find safe, adequate and affordable housing. Issues such as housing emergencies, evictions, discrimination, maintenance and repairs, and illegal rents can be addressed by a housing caseworker.
